4 Wise Words to get going

  1. Just because you are struggling does NOT mean you are failing.  Every great success requires some kind of struggle to get there.
  2. It doesn’t matter if you’ve failed or if you’ve been beaten.  All that matters is that you learn something, get back up, and try again.  Because winning is a good feeling, but winning when nobody else thought you could is an awesome feeling.
  3. Stop beating yourself up.  You are a work in progress; which means you get there a little at a time, not all at once.
  4. ‘Finished last’ will always be better than ‘Did not finish’, which always trumps ‘Did not start.’

  1. To my mind, #3 is the most critical – because everything rests on how we care for ourselves emotionally. Unfortunately, most cultures today are obsessed with “arriving.” We expect that at some point “our work” will be finished and we will arrive.. We’re always a work in progress so being gentle with ourselves in the process is very important.
Same with #1 – struggle is part of the process – how hard the struggle is very much depends on #3 – self compassion and respect.

    • Yes, the joy is in the journey. I have also come to understand that it is in the process that Flow is hidden. And that Flow is uncovered when we are in the current moment of our process. Often just being present in the present has saved me in some of the most difficult and challenging times of my life.
